Choral Choir (SATB divisi) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.499188 Composed by James W. Knox. 20th Century,Contemporary. Octavo. 13 pages. James Knox #112658. Published by James Knox (A0.499188). Now that winter is upon us is set to an original poem by the composer. NOW THAT WINTER IS UPON US, OUR MIND SLOWLY GOES UNDER SLUMBERING THOUGHTS. LIKE DAYS BEFORE WHEN THE GOLDEN SUN SHINES BRIGHT ACROSS THE EARTH, AND THE NIGHT'S GENTLE AIR KEEPS OUR HEARTS WARM. SLOWLY, ALL FALL ASLEEP AND SILENCE FILLS THE SKY. SILENT. EARTH'S BLANKET IS NOW WHITE, WITH SILVER GLEAMS OF WINTER'S DUST SOAR TO THE HEAVENLY STARS ABOVE. THE MOON STRETCHES DOWN ONTO THE HIDDEN TREES, ONLY TO FIND THE BARREN ARMS OF THE THINGS IT ONCE HELD. LIFE IS STILL. LIFE IS CALM. PEACE SURROUNDS WHAT IS LOST AND WILL GUARD YOUR HEART, UNTIL THE RETURN OF ALL THAT IS ANEW!

Connie Boss #6383851. Published by Connie Boss (A0.801665). This is a medley of 3 Christmas Carols - In the Bleak Mid Winter (English), Gesu Bambino (Italian) and The Snow Lay on the Ground (Irish). Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1125813 By Michael Swedberg. By Gustav Holst. Arranged by Terrence Niska. Christmas,Contemporary,Holiday. Score. 8 pages. Niska Music Publishing #726553. Published by Niska Music Publishing (A0.1125813). Another arrangement that had its genesis as a vocal chart for Five By Design. However, this piece went on to be performed in our holiday show, âA Winterâs Evening.â I have always loved the Gustav Holst melody to Christina Rossettiâs poem, subsequently it was that setting that I chose to arrange for our group. When I was selecting pieces for my second collection of Christmas Preludes, I knew this would be among them. The piece starts out quite gently, and in my mindâs ear I hear a cello and oboe establishing a mood of utter serenity and calm as the snow gently falls outside the frost-covered window. Soon the oboe is joined by a clarinet as they play a duet while the cello continues the gentle sway of eighth notes. For the pianist, there must be great control of the left hand to keep it as calm as possible while the melody floats above, just as the snow falls to the earth. As the second verse begins, the right hand now plays a triplet pattern beneath the melody. It is a gentle breeze, stirred by the wings of angels and cherubim, upon which the crystalline flakes swirl and dance in the cold night air. All the while the left hand continues its steady motion of eighth notes. Halfway through the triplet pattern moves to the left hand and the right hand takes up the eighth notes while still keeping the melody above all. The verse comes to a close with a slowing of the tempo to emphasize the importance of what the poet states in the last lines of the poem: âYet what I can I give Him, â Give my heart.â It is all that any of us can do, and all that we are asked to do.

Candlemas Carol

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.505695 By Alan Wagstaff. By Alan Wagstaff. Arranged by Alan Wagstaff. Celtic,Folk,Holiday,Irish,Jewish,Traditional. Octavo. 23 pages. Alan Wagstaff #117353. Published by Alan Wagstaff (A0.505695). This original song uses English folk idioms to retell a traditional snowdrop legend. The chorus is an English 'weather rhyme'. It has been set for choir (SSAA), piano, harp, fiddle, and flute. One of the Snowdropâs folk names is âEveâs Comforterâ; another âMaid of Februaryâ. Candlemas Carol Maid of February, if you will, grace mantle, hearth, and windowsill. So let us all be of goodwill and gather round, together. When Winter holds the world in thrall, and ice and snow lie over all, the Maiden can at once recall, the coming Summer weather. If Candlemas is fair and bright, cold Winter will take a second bite. But if this day brings clouds and rain, Winter wonât return again. When Eve and Adam left Eden fair, the snow and ice lay evârywhere, which filled their hearts with bleak despair, for they could find no pardon. They glimpsed the flowers of paradise, beyond the earthly cold and ice, but they could not be perfect, twice, nor get back to the garden. If Candlemas is fair and bright, cold Winter will take a second bite. But if this day brings clouds and rain, Winter wonât return again. A teardrop fell from Eveâs sad eye, and froze upon the ground close by. An angel raised it up on high, and called for Heavenâs power. The ice became a snowdrop, then. Thus hope returned to Eve again. And all the people say: âAmen!â in praise of Winterâs flower. If Candlemas is fair and bright, cold Winter will take a second bite. But if this day brings clouds and rain, Winter wonât return again. Alan Wagstaff The legend tells that, after Adam and Eve were banished from Edenâs perpetual summer, they wandered, despondently, into Earthâs freezing winter. Eve wept as the snow fell around them. Seeing her tears, an angel intervened. He caught a teardrop when it froze and breathed on it, turning it into a snowdrop. When the angel left more snowdrops sprang up. Thus, snowdrops in Winter, serve as a reminder, that better times will come around. The tale was often recalled at Candlemas: February 2nd.

Instrumental Duet Cello,Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.943039 Composed by Lewis A. Kocher. Contemporary,Holiday,Sacred. Score and parts. 9 pages. Lewis A. Kocher #6040547. Published by Lewis A. Kocher (A0.943039). THANKSGIVING REVERIE for CELLO AND PIANOPlaying time: Appx. 2:30 Seasons: Autumn/ThanksgivingSoft wisps of snow sift gently around and past an old barn. The harvest is finished, and the fields are at rest.As a farmer closes the barn door, knocking on the wood in a silent prayer of Thank You for all of this, so we too pause in humble thankfulness. The music of Thanksgiving Reverie pauses with us, allowing us time to contemplate the blessings and The Source from which they come. Poignant imagery passes through our minds; childhood Thanksgiving memories, memories of loved ones gone and reflections upon loved ones still with us.Winter is coming. There is so much to do, so much to prepare for. And yet for nowâ¦it is time to pause. To reflect. To rejoice in quiet jubilation.Although this composition is not unusually challenging for the cellist nor the pianist, it is my intent that it sets a mood, an ambience of introspective gratitude and joy. God bless.

Composed by Public Domain, as performed and recorded by Isadar. Arranged by Isadar. Contemporary Classical, Neo- Classical, Christmas, Recital, New Age. Sheet Music Single. 8 pages. Published by Mainya Music Publishing
Contains:<br> "Greensleeves 2012"<br> - taken from the Isadar solo piano collection, "O Christmas" (also available on SMP)<br> <br> Sounds like: Vince Guaraldi's "A Charlie Brown Christmas," Liz Story's "The Gift," George Winston's "December," legacy Windham Hill solo piano artists, "A Winter's Solstice" compilations.<br> <br> Note: Greensleeves 2012 is a revisited and evolved arrangement which like my earlier version, was inspired by and also pays homage to Liz Storys brilliant take on this timeless piece.<br> <br> Transcribed by: David Shenton ( https://www.shentonmusic.com/ ) verbatim to the sound recording<br> <br> Album review by: Michael Diamond (http://michaeldiamondmusic.com):<br> <br> Fresh on the heels of his highly acclaimed chart-topping CD, Reconstructed, Isadar gifts us with a sparkling new album of holiday-themed instrumental music for solo piano, entitled O Christmas. Given the proximity to his recent release, one might assume that this one was quickly produced, but in reality O Christmas has been 7 years in the making. Various circumstances including other recording projects, a segue into the field of video production, and a cross country move from NYC to the west coast and later back again, created delays with the completion of the album. But as they say, good things come to those who wait.<br> One of the most interesting things about this album is the fact that the selections are traditional Christmas songs, yet some were chosen because they are less well known, or off the beaten path as Isadar characterizes them. This follows the pattern set by his 1999 Christmas album In Search For The Meaning Of Christmas, yet this new CD mines even deeper in its quest for interesting and unusual choices.<br> <br> The album begins with a track called Good Christian Men. Steeped in history, the song dates back to 14th century Germany and its Latin title was originally In Dulci Jubilo before it was translated into English in the 1800s. Isadars interpretation creates a lively and festive air that makes a perfect portal to the recording. The high-spirited mood continues on the next song, Teddy Bears Picnic, which although not technically a Christmas song, has been interwoven by Isadar with March Of The Toys to tie it in with the holidays a clever arrangement of these intriguing melodies. One of the more well-known carols on the album is O Christmas Tree and is sure to have listeners humming along with its familiar refrain.<br> <br> A track entitled Still is an innovative rendition of the classic Still, Still, Still which Isadar has put his own spin on, or as he jokingly puts it jazzed up shamelessly. No such liberties were taken on the classic O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, however. This song provides a showcase for Isadars accomplished grand piano work, featuring lush left hand arpeggios creating a strong foundation for his more delicate right hand melodies to dance upon a powerful and moving combination. Another of the less well known, yet equally inspiring tunes is a Puerto Rican carol entitled Song Of The Wise Men. It has been said that: Christmas is, above all, a childrens holiday, and many hymns are addressed to children, reminding them that the real reason for the sugarplums and Christmas trees is the celebration of the birth of the Christ Child. This theme is well reflected in Isadars choice of O Come Little Children, based on a carol from the 1800s.<br> <br> Among my favorite tracks on the album are the wistful strains of Greensleeves 2012, which Isadar interprets with elegance and grandeur and also pays homage to Liz Storys brilliant take on this enduring composition. This is followed by a rendition of Masters In This Hall, which can best be described as, well masterful. The song dates back to the sixteenth century, and is another of the less well-known tunes that Isadar has chosen to feature. The album draws to a close with Isadar invoking artistic license on what is perhaps one of the most unique and liberal versions of a classic carol heard here yet. Based on We Wish You A Merry Christmas, Isadar characterizes it as an uninhibited melancholy arrangement. While I dont know if melancholy is the word I would use to describe it, it does have a pensive quality and is presented more as a nocturne than usual lively carol it is known as. I really liked the interpretation and respect Isadars creativity and distinctive rendering of the song.<br> <br> O Christmas is an exceptional holiday collection, not only for Isadars elegant grand piano artistry, but as well for the interesting and sometimes unexpected repertoire contained within. Like ornaments on a tree, the songs adorn the album, enhancing its beauty with their diversity, individuality, and timelessness. Given the well-deserved accolades and popularity of Isadars distinctive piano style, Im sure that fans will want to include O Christmas in their collection and make it a part of their holiday tradition.

Carol Of The Bells<br> <br> Album & Songbook review by: Kathy Parsons (MainlyPiano.com):<br> <br> I have discovered a real wealth of great solo piano Christmas CDs this year! Isadars In Search For the Meaning of Christmas definitely falls into this category! Thoughtful, introspective, and a bit moody, Isadars arrangements are true to the carols (with some small melody changes in Bring a Torch and Carol of the Bells that bother me just a little) and still seem very personal. Bring a Torch, The Holly and the Ivy, and I Saw Three Ships are given a lighthearted, joyful treatment. Star of Wonder (We Three Kings), What Child Is This?, The Coventry Carol, and Sing We Now of Christmas are all minor, somber, reverent pieces, and all four are given loving arrangements that keep the dark, mysterious nature of the songs and reflect Isadars own sensibilities. Carol of the Bells and Isadar's take on Liz Storys arrangement of Greensleeves are energetic without losing all abandon. Silent Night and It Came Upon a Midnight Clear present us with a very cold, deep solitude - both feel like late night with moonlight reflecting off the snow. Both are moody, but very beautifully so. George Winstons December is one of my all-time favorite holiday albums, and I feel In Search For the Meaning of Christmas holds up exceptionally well next to it. This is an excellent collection of Christmas music, and I highly recommend it!<br> <br> In Search For the Meaning of Christmas is the companion songbook to Isadars 1999 solo piano release by the same name. Meticulously transcribed note-for-note by David Shenton of New York Music Publishing, the music is faithful to the recording in every way (except for the pianist - YOU!). The scores are clear, concise, and easy to read, and also include chord indications for improvisation or the use of instruments other than or in addition to the piano. Isadars arrangements cover a whole range of emotions, from very dark and somber to joyful and buoyant. All of the pieces from the CD are here, including Isadars homage to Liz Story and her beautiful version of Greensleeves. My personal favorites of the eleven songs in this book are the bright and cheerful Bring A Torch, What Child Is This?, Greensleeves, the darkly gorgeous The Coventry Carol, and Sing We Now of Christmas. Other titles that I really like are Children Go Where I Send Thee/The Holly and the Ivy, Star of Wonder (We Three Kings)," Carol of the Bells, and the effervescent Three Ships. Silent (Silent Night) and Midnight (It Came Upon a Midnight Clear) are a bit too dark for my own holiday tastes, but are interesting and very personal arrangements.
